Now I personally believe that everyone has the ability to do anything they put their minds to. I’m one of those people that is constantly biting off more then I can chew. I believe in humanity and the ability we have to make a difference. Sadly, more and more over the years I’ve realized our humanity has been violated so many times that we find it easier to ignore then to face life and it’s realities.
Due to the stir of fear and uncertainty in the world. When we see things we do not understand or wish to not deal with, we ignore them. We walk around saying to ourselves, “mind your own business!”We think ” Just keep walking, its not our problem.” This is the exact reason so many bad things in society get over looked.
Lets start with what is ignorance exactly? Well. To start lets take a look at Wikipedia’s definition of ignorance.
Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. The word ignorant is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware, and can be used to describe individuals who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts or individuals who are not aware of that important information or facts. Ignorance can come in three different types: factual ignorance (absence of knowledge of some fact), objectual ignorance (unacquaintance with some actual object), and technical ignorance (absence of knowledge of how to do something that could actually be done).
Now, that we have looked at the definition of ignorance. Let’s look at two of the more frequent definitions wikipedia has to offer regarding proverbs related to ignorance.
It is easier for us to look past the realities in real life situations, then it is to get involved. Life is already so complicated for so many of us, why would we take on more? Why would we step out of our box to assist a stranger or risk making our life more challenging to protect someone else? Their are so many ways we can step up in our communities or lend a helping hand one step at a time. Yet so often we do not make those steps.
The problem is we are scared! We are scared, we will be injuried or hurt. We are worried, if we see a person crying we will have to give them our time. Time that we can not get back. Time that could jeopardize our own life. We are nervous because it is hard to trust the people that are in our lives everyday let alone a stranger. Now we teach our children to mind their own business or stay out of anything that has nothing to do with you. We tell them sayings like have you ever heard, curiosity killed the cat. We teach them that to keep them safe. But as adults sometimes we should stand up and make a difference. Sometimes theres reasons why we should take a chance.
Once upon a time when you had a new neighbor, people would welcone them with a pie and a nice gesture or some type of kindness. Now a days, we linger at our windows like old wash woman contemplating theories of who they are. Until we accidently brush into them and claim we wanted to introduce our selves but we have just been so busy, but its nice to meet you.
Ignorance maybe be a short term positive in a serious situation but in the long run it holds us back as a society. We have to find a way to build trust and respect for eachother. We have to lend a helping hand every once in a while. We need to spread the kindness and love that we all have. If we notice something wrong reach out if your nervous. Find help or do research on a safe way to go about a situation. Seek guidance that can help you make the right decision and provide you assistance.
Rome was not built in a day and world peace will not be either. From my personal view point the only way peace is met is thru communicating and lending a listening ear or hand. One step at a time a couple good deeds with in our circles could change the world. We can spread kindness and happiness just as easily as we spread hate and violence. We just need to step up and do our best.
After reading this blog think of the times some one gave you a helping hand? How did that event effect or change your life for the better? Think of something you have done when you went above and beyond for someone. Did it impact that person and how did you feel after?
I hope this blog helped you contemplate some life details. Ignorance is a very large part of our society and this blog only skims the top of it’s meaning and some of the effects it has for us all. We need to take ownership of our decisions and the effects we have on eachother.
